Manantiales Ojos Indígenas

Known as “manantiales”, or “Ojos Indigenas” (Indigenous Eyes” because the native Taino indians once called them “ojos”, these freshwater lagoons are fed by underground rivers and are found across the entire eastern region of the Dominican Republic. In Bayahibe one of these lagoons is very easy to find just off the main street, and is home to freshwater turtles.
